Sometimes, the unexpected adds a little extra magic to a photo session. That was certainly the case with the Llewellyn family! AJ, Megan, their four amazing kids—Ryder, Madi, Sadie, and Hadleigh—and their lovable dog Duke joined me for what turned out to be one of the windiest shoots I’ve ever experienced. Despite the challenges, their session was an absolute joy and a beautiful reminder of why I love doing what I do.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the Llewellyn family through our church community, where I was the Catechesis teacher for their girls. This connection made our session feel even more special. The Llewellyns are the kind of family whose warmth and kindness shine through, making it easy to capture their natural love and connection. Their easygoing nature was a blessing on a day when Mother Nature decided to throw us a curveball!
We started the session at a planned location, but the wind quickly became too much to handle. At one point, I worried we might need to cancel and reschedule, but the Llewellyns were so flexible and upbeat. We paused, said a little prayer, and decided to switch gears. And let me tell you, that decision paid off! The new spot gave us some beautiful backdrops that worked perfectly for their portraits.
Their dog, Duke, was such a fun addition to the session. Including pets always brings an extra layer of personality and charm, and Duke was no exception. He’s such a sweet and photogenic pup, and it’s clear he’s a beloved member of the family. Watching the kids interact with him was heartwarming and made for some of my favorite candid moments.
Despite the crazy wind, the Llewellyns’ gallery turned out beautifully. Their laid-back attitudes and willingness to embrace the moment made all the difference. It’s families like theirs that remind me how important it is to go with the flow and trust the process. Some of the best memories and images come from those unplanned, imperfectly perfect moments.
